“I’m growing.”

“You’re not growing and that’s the problem. You got it from me.”

“Got what from you?”

“You want the whole world to change and be better but not be better yourself. Look at you. You are about to have a baby by a man that’s not your husband, but got pregnant while you were still married. And think I don’t know you were creeping in the shadows. I know you.”

“What do you want me to do mama?”

“Give your daddy a chance girl. Love your father. Because at the end of the day there is no you without there being a him. It’s something you want to think about.”

And for the first time her mother was giving her advice that she actually considered taking. Mary still wasn’t ready but at least it was a start. Soon after she would have her child and name him Caesar.

Unfortunately it would end up being Billy’s baby, but it wasn’t the end of the world. As the younger Billy approached thirty, he began going through changes. Seeing his seed, he realized he needed to change for the better of the next generation. Although he would never be with Mary in the way he was before, he would still be there for his son.

Drake on the other hand was still living in stripper world. His son was following suit, getting caught with pictures of teenage girls in compromising positions in his smartphone. His father gave him the conversation telling him it was wrong, yet deep down feeling his son was some modern version of player. Drake had never been that cool in school and some part of him didn’t want him to lose that. He was still a nice guy and just hiding behind bomb pussy and phat asses. The day would come when it had to end, it just wasn’t today.

Everyone was going through some type of transformation whether they knew it or not. Sometimes to be made a better person you have to look the worst version in the mirror. Before dinner that fatal Monday, that’s just what Mary did. She wasn’t ready to be alone, but over a meal of grilled fish and garden salad her mother hit her with it.

“Mary I’m moving in with your father.”

“What? After he cheated on you?”

“I cheated too.”

“He left you for another woman.”

“She was the better woman at the time. We both know that. She is no longer with us. So now it’s me.”

“Mama don’t.”

“Do you want me to be alone forever?”

“No. Just not with him. Can’t you find another guy?”

“No. We’ve both made horrible mistakes.”

“Mama he abandoned us.”

“You don’t know the whole store. I wouldn’t let him back in. You girls didn’t see that.”

“Why wouldn’t you let him around his daughters?”

“People wanted him dead in the street at one time. He stayed away to keep you girls safe.”

“But he never sent money or………………….”

“He sent money. You just didn’t see it.”

“So he stayed away from us for our safety?”

“They were coming for his head. He feared for you girls.
